Geov8 Announces Dr. Jason Stoker, Physical Scientist at USGS, as a Geov8 2016 Virtual Expo Presenter

3D Elevation Program – Covering the Nation in 3D Elevation Data

Providence, RI, July 06, 2016 – Geov8 and Colburn Strategic Partners are pleased to announce that US Geological Survey Physical Scientist, Dr. Jason Stoker, will present at the Geov8 Virtual Expo scheduled for August 13, 2016. Jason Stoker is a US Geological Survey Physical Scientist and is the Elevation Products and Services Manager for the National Geospatial Program. Jason oversees strategic planning, development and coordination of the 3D Elevation Program and related data, tools, and services. His presentation will cover the scope of the 3D Elevation Program and its role in collecting enhanced elevation data in the United States.

Geov8 Presentation Description:

The primary goal of the 3D Elevation Program is to systematically collect enhanced elevation data in the form of high-quality light detection and ranging (lidar) data over the conterminous United States, Hawaii, and the U.S. territories, with data acquired over an 8-year period.The 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) is accelerating the rate and quality of 3D elevation data collection to address a wide range of critical needs. 3DEP is managed by the USGS on behalf of many partners who work together to build on existing programs with the goal to complete national coverage of 3D elevation data in 8 years. Broad support is needed to achieve national coverage; come learn how 3DEP tracks the nation’s progress toward nationwide coverage and learn how you can get involved in 3DEP. About Jason Stoker

Dr. Jason Stoker, Physical Scientist at US Geological SurveyJason Stoker is a US Geological Survey Physical Scientist and is the Elevation Products and Services Manager for the National Geospatial Program. Jason oversees strategic planning, development and coordination of the 3D Elevation Program and related data, tools, and services. Jason provides technical expertise, prepares roadmaps and plans for elevation products and services, and helps determine the long-term vision for 3DEP products and services.

Prior to this position, for over twelve years he led the lidar research and development activities at USGS EROS Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was the founder of CLICK: the USGS Center for Lidar Information Coordination and Knowledge. Jason is currently the Assistant Director of the Lidar Division of the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS). Jason received his B.S and M.S from Colorado State University and his Ph.D from South Dakota State University.

Interferometric synthetic aperture radar (IfSAR) data will be collected over Alaska, where cloud cover and remote locations preclude the use of lidar over much of the State.
